A sure way to keep your kids in tip-top shape this summer is
to sign them up for a race. Whether they’re into biking, running, swimming or
adventure racing, there’s no shortage of events from which to choose. Here are
a few past favorites—and some new additions—that look like a lot of fun.
Biking
The Community Classic Bike Tour (May 18) in Loveland is a
family-friendly fundraiser with rides that range from 5–62 miles.

The Kaiser Permanente Moonlight Classic (July 19) has an
8-mile family wave that starts at 10:30 pm. Your young cyclists will wind their
way through historic downtown neighborhoods and get a nighttime view of Denver

Running
In its second year, the Kokopelli Kids Trail Running Series
(May 2, 16 and 23) in Colorado Springs teaches kids to appreciate the
challenges and beauty of trail running. Distances range from .5 – 1.65 miles. www.kokopellikids.com
The Pearl Street Mile (June 31) is a must for runners and
spectators alike. Run with your kids, then watch some of the fastest runners in
the world. New this year is the Pearl Street 1/2 Mile. www.5430sports.com
Swimming
The Open Water Swims at Horsetooth Reservoir (August 10)
will challenge your swimmers, ages 8–18, with distances ranging from 250 yards

The new Kids Stroke & Stride series at Boulder Reservoir
(June 19 and July 3, 10 and 17) encourages kids to swim 50, 100 or 200 meters

Triathlon
The Longmont Kid’s Triathlon (May 31) is a friendly, low-key

The Fall Frenzy Kid’s Triathlon (July 26) in Castle Rock
will put your kids’ swimming, biking and running skills to the test. For kids

Even the youngest can compete in Fort Collins Club Triathlon
(August 10), which is open to kids ages 4–12 as long as they can swim the

More Fun Stuff
The New Belgium Urban Assault Ride returns to Ft. Collins
(July 20) and Denver (July 27). Pair up with your kids on this funky bike
scavenger hunt that sends two-person teams cycling around town to complete

The Denver Oyster Urban Adventure Race
(August 16) offers a family division with three to four legs that covers 10–15
