Five accomplished athletes comprise the new 2008 GoLite Adventure Racing team, bringing diverse talent to the adventure racing circuit. This year, the team announced it would donate 10 percent of its winnings and sponsorships to local Colorado organizations committed to social and environmental causes.
Additionally, the team has announced that it will be 100 percent carbon-neutral in 2008 through carbon offsets. Carbon offsets are a financial instrument used to represent a reduction in greenhouse gas emission; companies or individuals who wish to mitigate their emissions purchase carbon offsets.
In 2007, Team GoLite was led by 26-year-old Andrew Skurka, named the 2007 “Adventurer of the year” by National Geographic Adventure magazine, and in 2005, “Person of the Year” by Backpacker magazine. Skurka is best known for his record-setting 6,875-mile hike, the Great Western Loop.
GoLite is a Boulder-based producer of lightweight clothing and equipment for active outdoor sports. The company’s emphasis lies in making products that weigh as little as possible.
